Chapter 9

This chapter helped me a lot to realize that all the suggestions, although helpful, are suggestions and don't have to be incorporated into my paper. I liked how it encouraged you to keep your own thoughts in the paper but still look into what others have to say. You need to be sure to keep the paper how you want but consider outside viewpoints as they may be more helpful. Reading your own work over and over can get repetitive and you may not catch mistakes that other people would if they read over your paper for the first time.

Chapter 9 response

This Chapter was actually very helpful for me. The text mentions how although peers or teachers or whoever is reviewing our papers will make comments and suggest advice, all they are are suggestions. I often try to accommodate every suggestion made towards my paper; however, this could negatively affect it as a whole. The overall purpose of the paper could be lost or a point could be brought up that completely contradicts the thesis. However, the text also made it known how it is important to keep in mind how it is YOUR work, and YOU know it better than those reading it. Make changes as YOU see fit.

Chapter 9 pt 1

After reading this chapter, I have a better understanding on revising pieces of my writing. I personally never considered using my target audience while peer revising. I also never considered the concept of authors statements, this also could be beneficial. I personally do not utilize peer review as often as i should, I normally am I only one looking at my paper unless a teacher is reviewing, but usually that is after the final draft is already done. I need to take revising and peer review more seriously in order to make a piece of writing the best it can be.

Chapter 9: Revising

The first section of chapter 9 makes some very good points about revising drafts. It touches a lot upon peer reviewing and to be completely honest, I have always been a bit skeptical about this way of revising because I feel like maybe not everyone will be able to help me improve my writing. What if they don't really understand what is being asked? or What if they give me the wrong advice? I had always wondered how having a classmate could possibly help my writing if we are all attempting to write a paper or essay for the same professor, who might be looking for specific things. I now understand that peer reviewing can actually more beneficial than anything in the process of revising solely because it gives a second opinion and a second pair of eyes for your draft. For peer reviewing, it does not necessarily need to be a friend or a classmate; it can actually be a teacher, your parents, and even a tutor. I actually did not know this initially and I was always under the impression t...

Chapter 9 Response LOGAN GREEN

In reading chapter 9, I felt as though much of the information was good in theory, but i myself have not had experiences with peer review that have been very helpful. Generally, students either do not care enough about the other student to work to find mistakes or points where the paper could be improved, or they care too much about the other student thinks of them to the point where they do not want to hurt the other persons feelings or something of that nature. i do see that peer reviews could be helpful because it often becomes hard to judge something that you have been working on for a long time. Sometimes things make sense in your own head because it is your train of thought, but to others it may not make any sense at all. Perhaps this time the peer review will be helpful; we shall see...

Chapter 9 Response

Chapter 9 was really helpful to me, because I have a hard time revising my own papers. I easily go off topic when I’m trying to reach a word count, but the revising strategy would probably help me decide what I am trying to say in my paper. I feel like I will probably use it, but then again it is really hard for me to read my own papers. The second strategy that was suggested was peer review. It is also hard for me to have other people read my papers because I get protective over my papers. I am also easily embarrassed when it comes to my own writing, but I need to get over this because peer review seems like a really good way to get feedback. It is hard to know if someone is good at giving feedback but that is the risk that peer review requires. Another persons’ opinion, even if it isn’t good, will help me look at my paper in a new light. This is what I need because it is hard for me to think outside of the box when it comes to my own paper.

Chapter 9 Responce

This reading suggested two different forms of revising that I believe would be very helpful when writing my papers, especially when used together. The first revising tactic based on my own observations includes writing an author's statement which I had never considered doing before. I think it is a great way to reflect on what i'm writing and why I think it is important. By writing out explanations of my choices for both the topic and style of my writing, I will get the chance to see if i'm being focused enough and evaluate my choices on my own. Then I can use this to look back at my writing to see if they align. I will definitely use this in my research papers where it can be really easy for me to get off topic or rant about something irrelevant. I also think it will help me focus on specific factors such as style and tone which I don't always consider when writing because i'm so focused on just getting the message across. The second revising tactic is to use peer ...

chapter 9 response

I found this chapter very helpful to me, and my re-writing process. Because I usually don’t write several drafts, I’m not really familiar with the process. One thing that I did find amusing was the idea that first drafts usually lack logic, because well mine most definitely does. Additionally, the concept of peer review is something that I have never familiarized myself with before, but I am looking forward to it. Most specifically, I am hoping that by having my peers, who may not be the most experienced, I will be able to learn if my writing is cohesive, and can be understood. Also, I like the idea of asking for feedback rather than random critiques because after all it is not within human nature to enjoy being criticized. The examples of text and the revision process that followed was very helpful in understanding exactly what was expected of me. Personally In my next draft I am hoping to incorporate some more exampl...

Chapter 9

Chapter 9 essentially stresses the importance and usefulness of having another individual peer review your work. As a writer you simply write what is on your mind. I know that when i am writing something I put down a string of thoughts that in my head might make sense but to others theirs simply no connection. Because of this peer reviews are a great tool. They put your paper into another mindset. Perhaps your paper was stuck on one point of view and a peer review can help change that. By having another person read your paper you can catch easy mistakes and make the writing a lot more understandable to others. I personally dont like peer reviews unless its anonymous. Although I hate them I know how useful they can be and have to try to like them in order for my work to improve.

Chapter 9 - Amiyah Lytle

Basically this chapter is about different ways to revise and remix your work.  Chapter 9 explains that peer reviewing is a good technique for your writing. It allows you to see your writing in a different perspective. They give you different ways to ask one to review your paper. They also give you questions to ask about your paper, as well as follow up questions. In Chapter 9, they also show you how to change your paper to another genre such as multimedia. I think this chapter is helpful for class tomorrow when peer reviewing each other's papers. I think the questions help to really dive into your paper and understand what kind of message it puts across. The follow up questions also provide for a waypoint clear up and confusions and give you more intel on the steps you should take to revise your paper.

Chapter 9 Response

Chapter 9 was interesting because of the author's perspective on peer reviews and how they're different than the writer's own proof-reading. In this chapter, the author also stressed the importance of multiple drafts and editing those drafts to perfect the writing. Professional pieces are those that are read over and peer-reviewed several times in order to clean it up. Peer-reviewing is a key component in the writing process and it is essential to effectively get the author's point across. A writer often misses parts in their writing that another person would be able to see, because they often get locked into their thinking about their subject and everything makes sense to them, while in reality it could make no sense at all. Personally, I find it hard to find people willing to read my pieces because it's not always interesting and I also feel like reading it again myself is just as effective. I do agree with creating multiple drafts, as nobody can write a flawl...

Chapter 9 "Revising Your Work"

The first section of chapter 9, “Revising Your Work” highlighted the benefits of peer revision.   Peer revision allows us to acknowledge the missing components within our essays and it might even encourage new ideas to arise.   Although some may say peer revision has been helpful, I personally am not too fond of it because I believe I have never received any beneficial feedback.   I do believe that this chapter will change how we revise one’s essay due to the numerous examples of questions we could ask someone, as well as, ourselves while reading a peer’s essay.   Thus, these questions could bring up some points that the writer never thought of before and can possibly help the writer enhance their own essay. Overall, I have mixed reviews on peer revision but after reading this chapter I became more confident in the process.
