Project One Reflection

I did find that my first draft was quite shitty. But it was not so easy to write so care free because I was turning it in. Perhaps my self consciousness got in the way a little. I did write somewhat faster than I normally do, and I think maybe the ideas flowed a little bit better, but it was not easy to be care free. Perhaps now that I've gotten a lot of ideas down it will be easier to polish up my work into a final draft. Well I guess I'll find out. Either way, I didn't mind the assignment as much as I thought I would. The writing part was not so painful as it normally is for me. So I'm glad for that.

    I agree with writing carefree to be a little challenging. I personally ran into the same problem. However, as I realized I didn't have to formulate complete thoughts and I could just get out what was in my mind onto the paper, it was easier to proceed.

"Navigating Genres" by Kerry Dirk makes you really think about what a genre is. Whenever I thought about genres, I always thought of it as the type of writing that is being created. All throughout school, we were taught that a genre was used to describe a novel such as nonfiction, fiction, fantasy, science fiction, etc. I never really thought of a piece of writing having a genre but now, after reading Dirk's piece, I now realize that writing does have a genre. Dirk also points out that genres are used to help people accomplish a goal. I never thought a genre could do that. I always thought it was used to just categorize novels or short stories but, now that I have read this piece, I now realize that genres are important because, if you write in the wrong genre, the message that you want to portray can come across completely differently then you had intended. Project 2 Reflection

1)      In this essay I am most proud of the new way in which I learned to write a research paper. I was able to incorporate new writing skills into my paper that I never learned in my high school classes but will aid me in my future writing. 2)      If I had more time to work on this essay I would try to include more specific details to support my topic from a wider range of sources and provide more reasoning to support the legalization of physician assisted suicide. 3)      Peer reviews benefitted my essay the most. This is because it provided me with a lot of constructive feedback that I was able to take into consideration while editing my paper.
