Shitty First Draft Reading Response
While reading the article, I felt as though it was a sigh of relief. Throughout my high school career, writing for any class, regarding any topic, has always been a struggle. Sitting in front of my computer and watching the blank page stare back at me was always one of my least favorite things to do. Unfortunately, my poor attitude toward the assignment would almost always reflect in the assignment itself and my grade would suffer.
Interestingly, this article truly opened my eyes to the stages required in writing a paper and how the first draft is almost a "child's craft." However, for me the idea of the first draft being read is what brings about anxiety. Some thoughts may be incomplete, or very simple minded and the pressure to have everything laid out perfectly is overbearing. The reassurance brought forward by this article will be very helpful in the upcoming months of my college career.

Hi Analeza
ReplyDeleteYes, the first draft can be seen as a "child's draft". The first draft is supposed to be a moment for you to put all your ideas on paper than coming up with any organization. Such lack of structure should be reassuring and a relief to those who get anxious about writing.
