"Shitty First Drafts" Response

“Shitty First Drafts,” by Anne Lamott, emphasizes the tedious, but important stages of writing that are necessary before submitting a final draft.  Personally, I find Lamott’s words to be quite relatable because writing a well-rounded paper on the first try is an impossible task.  Her comedic explanations of the first and second drafts made me realize the importance of checking and rewriting your work because new ideas can be unexpected.  Additionally, her helpful advice “to just start somewhere” by writing anything down on paper was very intriguing because any flawed idea has the ability to turn into something great once it is enhanced.  Thus, giving us the message that there is always room for improvement.
Overall, Lamott’s article explores that it is acceptable to have multiple drafts for one essay, encouraging readers to proofread and revise their own essays.  Honestly, after reading this article I can say that I have become more
inclined to thoroughly analyze and improve my own writing assignments because it will be very beneficial in the long term.

  1. I like your interpretation that anything in a first draft can be molded into something great, even if it seemed bad at first. I also think that putting more time and effort into drafting will ultimately benefit my writing.
