Writing My First Draft

While writing my first draft of the paper, I experienced some of the same experiences. When I first sat down to write my essay, I had an idea in my head that I thought was going to work. After writing about 500 words, I realized that this topic wasn't going to work. After this, I started to just write whatever came to my mind. After a while, I realized that what I had written was just a bunch of random phrases about the adaptations and it made no sense. This is when I had to give up and let my head clear over night. The next time I sat down to write the essay, I was able to get a much clearer concept and the ideas flowed together a lot better. Even though, in "Shitty First Drafts" the first draft can be basically comprised of whatever you want to say, my first draft had to be coherent and it had to have flow to it in order to make sure that I could get the best peer feedback I can. Also, I had a rough time keeping the ideas on track. I would venture off from idea to idea causing me to have to rewrite every paragraph over and over again. By looking back at "Shitty First Drafts" I just remembered that writing is a process and writing a horrible first draft is normal, but in the end, people don't judge your first draft because most people struggle the first time around.

  1. I had the same experience with the formulating a sound idea. It was difficult at first but then once I had the idea it was a lot easier.

  2. I did the same thing; I ended up writing whatever came to mind rather than overthinking it all.
