Chapter 5 Response
Before reading this chapter from the book, I would be completely lost if I was asked to create a research proposal; I wouldn't even know how to search for a topic to begin with. However, as I kept reading the chapter, I quickly realized that it really isn't as difficult as I convinced myself it was. The process is actually pretty simple: brainstorm a bunch of topic ideas and research them. Now I know that I simply have to choose multiple (about 3-5) topic ideas that I am interested in, and what I "care most about"; after I have that list, my decision becomes much easier. If you think about it, how difficult could it be to write a paper/essay on a topic you are most interested about? Not difficult at all! If you are given the chance to choose my own topic that I care about, then chances are that not only will you put more effort into writing the paper but you will also find it much quicker to finish. Even though the brainstorming process seems too simple, I can see how it can get a little tricky as you get deeper and deeper into your research. I feel like at times I might think that I have researched a specific topic enough in the "Topic Brainstorm 2" step, but I actually have more to elaborate on. I also think that asking myself questions while I brainstorm—or even throughout my writing—is a great idea and can really help me improve the quality of my writing.
Hi Lauren
ReplyDeleteI'm happy to see that the chapter has shed light on how you could go about writing your topic proposal. We missed you in class today.
Honestly same, research papers I feel are so hard to write, however this chapter did help me a little.
ReplyDeletePersonally, I was in the same situation, but the chapter did help clarify how specifically to do it and what is expected.
ReplyDeleteI totally agree, I also was lost in picking a topic for this paper and decided to pick something I am interested in. I like your tip on remembering to ask yourself questions when brainstorming and while writing to make sure to stay track.
