Ch 7

I found Chapter 7 to be mainly a review of the information I already had on citing sources and whatnot. It was a nice refresher however when it clarified when it would be better to paraphrase as opposed to directly quoting a source. Back in highschool I would always rely on direct quotations as my means of incorporating sources into my writing rather than paraphrasing. This chapter helped me realize that paraphrasing might be better than quoting in some cases, being that the “language” or writing style of the original work might be different than yours, due to the likely differences in the audiences. While I believe that high school prepared me well enough with regards to avoiding plagiarism, this chapter was a good review on how to properly cite sources and give credit to the original source. Additionally, I found it very helpful when the chapter explained the importance of making sure you use credible sources in your paper to ensure that your writing has the best results with regards to relaying accurate and factual information.

  1. I agree that it was mainly a review of information that was background knowledge or we had gone over in class. I also saw the emphasis shown on paraphrasing.
