First Draft Reflection

The most challenging part of this was to not summarize. I feel like I really didn't dig into the importance of the genres themselves enough, which is a bit frustrating since I wasn't sure how to word my exact thoughts, but since it's a first draft, I have time to figure it out. The whole time I had to keep reminding myself of "Shitty First Drafts" so I could convince myself to stop nitpicking and just finish the assignment, but there's a bit of pressure involved since this eventually has to be a polished essay. I'm hoping feedback will help me improve.

    I agree with you on the summarizing, I found it hard not to elaborate too much on the story's in each genre I chose. It was hard to compare the two.

"Navigating Genres" by Kerry Dirk makes you really think about what a genre is. Whenever I thought about genres, I always thought of it as the type of writing that is being created. All throughout school, we were taught that a genre was used to describe a novel such as nonfiction, fiction, fantasy, science fiction, etc. I never really thought of a piece of writing having a genre but now, after reading Dirk's piece, I now realize that writing does have a genre. Dirk also points out that genres are used to help people accomplish a goal. I never thought a genre could do that. I always thought it was used to just categorize novels or short stories but, now that I have read this piece, I now realize that genres are important because, if you write in the wrong genre, the message that you want to portray can come across completely differently then you had intended. Taylor   I really liked the video that Taylor made because it was a good visual representation for people who don’t like football. Personally, I like football, so I think it is necessary to have more research done for the players wellbeing. Sarah I really liked how Sarah chose such a relevant topic to today’s times. I really liked her journal entries because it showed how much a person is affected by others. No one should be judged based on their gender. Luke B I really like that he used a survey because it gave a semi accurate representation of the people here. I think it’s really funny that he chose the topic of makeup because most of the girls here always are done up. Kathryn The Spotify playlist was a very unique idea.
