First Draft

I found my first draft to be very difficult to write. I ended up writing two versions of my first draft because I was not pleased with my original draft. My experience was like the paper “Shitty First Drafts” and I really did just put down my thoughts for whatever came to mind. It was not organized at first which I think is why I needed to write the second version of my first draft. My experience was different than shitty first drafts because I tried to organize my thoughts not just put thoughts on paper and leave it at that. I did my best to make the thoughts make sense so I could easily build on the ideas I have for the second and final draft.

"Navigating Genres" by Kerry Dirk makes you really think about what a genre is. Whenever I thought about genres, I always thought of it as the type of writing that is being created. All throughout school, we were taught that a genre was used to describe a novel such as nonfiction, fiction, fantasy, science fiction, etc. I never really thought of a piece of writing having a genre but now, after reading Dirk's piece, I now realize that writing does have a genre. Dirk also points out that genres are used to help people accomplish a goal. I never thought a genre could do that. I always thought it was used to just categorize novels or short stories but, now that I have read this piece, I now realize that genres are important because, if you write in the wrong genre, the message that you want to portray can come across completely differently then you had intended. Taylor   I really liked the video that Taylor made because it was a good visual representation for people who don’t like football. Personally, I like football, so I think it is necessary to have more research done for the players wellbeing. Sarah I really liked how Sarah chose such a relevant topic to today’s times. I really liked her journal entries because it showed how much a person is affected by others. No one should be judged based on their gender. Luke B I really like that he used a survey because it gave a semi accurate representation of the people here. I think it’s really funny that he chose the topic of makeup because most of the girls here always are done up. Kathryn The Spotify playlist was a very unique idea. I like that she included songs that help her study, or can be helpful for studying. Music does tend to affect a person mood, so it was an interesting genre alteration.
