Shitty First Draft
The article surely was an interesting one, definitely shaping my ideas about writing. Before reading this I would always think that writers such as J.K. Rowling had such talent that they could write the entire Happy Potter serious in one sitting. I now see that talent does not dictate your writing, hard work does. When teachers in high school gave us assignments for a draft I almost always found it pointless. I would write my first draft and think this is the best I can do, their is simply nothing I can do to make this any better. The problem was that I did not sit down long enough to see my mistakes. I was simply too afraid of starting over and making it worse. I can now appreciate the art of writing a shitty first draft.
I thought of J.K. Rowling too as an author that could write on forever in one sitting!
ReplyDeleteHi Alexis
ReplyDeleteI'm glad to see that the text made you realize that writing is hard work and even more accomplished writers work hard on it. I wish, however, you had extended your response further and dwelt on topics such as your writing process and if you use first drafts or plans on using them after reading the text.
