Chapter 5- Amiyah Lytle

Essentially, this chapter is about exploring your options for research and picking a topic, as well as creating s proposal. They give you options on how to choose your topic: brainstorming, research your topic a little, narrow it down to something that interests you, and form a research question. The chapter also tells you how to navigate from a research question to a proposal. They give you the advice to explore the topic, find support that backs up the topic that interests you, gather opinions that support your topic, as well. In addition to all these ideas, they also give you tips on how to organize your sources.

I think this chapter is really useful for our project 2 topic proposal. I really found the page on the outline of there research proposal really helpful because I feel that it was really detailed in what one should discuss in their topic proposal. Overall this chapter was very informative in the aspect of helping us explore choosing a topic and examining our options. I think this chapter aides us in guiding ourselves in the outline for our next assignment.

    I completely agree with the fact that this chapter was extremely informative and the many tips that were included would be a great tool to follow when writing a research paper, or any paper for that matter.

    I do agree that the page on the research proposal was helpful because it gave a detailed example of what a correct proposal should look like. It gives you an insight into a proposal and the detail it needs.

"Navigating Genres" by Kerry Dirk makes you really think about what a genre is. Whenever I thought about genres, I always thought of it as the type of writing that is being created. All throughout school, we were taught that a genre was used to describe a novel such as nonfiction, fiction, fantasy, science fiction, etc. I never really thought of a piece of writing having a genre but now, after reading Dirk's piece, I now realize that writing does have a genre. Dirk also points out that genres are used to help people accomplish a goal. I never thought a genre could do that. I always thought it was used to just categorize novels or short stories but, now that I have read this piece, I now realize that genres are important because, if you write in the wrong genre, the message that you want to portray can come across completely differently then you had intended. Taylor   I really liked the video that Taylor made because it was a good visual representation for people who don’t like football. Personally, I like football, so I think it is necessary to have more research done for the players wellbeing. Sarah I really liked how Sarah chose such a relevant topic to today’s times. I really liked her journal entries because it showed how much a person is affected by others. No one should be judged based on their gender. Luke B I really like that he used a survey because it gave a semi accurate representation of the people here. I think it’s really funny that he chose the topic of makeup because most of the girls here always are done up. Kathryn The Spotify playlist was a very unique idea.
