Chapter 7

I found chapter 7 very informative and helpful especially in preparation for when I will be writing my research paper soon since I will need to quote sources. Chapter 7 taught me the many ways to insert information from other sources through quotes, paraphrasing, summaries. But not only ways to insert quotes but where and when. I liked how the chapter gave lots of examples on how to successfully insert quotes in writing to support the argument while continuing the flow of the paper. Since in the past I mainly quoted other sources just by using direct quotes, it was helpful in showing other ways to insert the same information into the paper. I really found chapter 7 helpful because it showed the ways to insert quotes and cite quotes using MLA. I am not very familiar with MLA and all the different formats when citing so when the chapter gave the examples in MLA, it helped teach me how to imply MLA in my writing, which is the format I will need to use for this class.

    I agree that this chapter was helpful certain aspects of a research paper such as quotations, paraphrasing, and summaries. I can also say that this chapter was more of a review of the prior knowledge I had about writing all of these things in MLA format.

"Navigating Genres" by Kerry Dirk makes you really think about what a genre is. Whenever I thought about genres, I always thought of it as the type of writing that is being created. All throughout school, we were taught that a genre was used to describe a novel such as nonfiction, fiction, fantasy, science fiction, etc. I never really thought of a piece of writing having a genre but now, after reading Dirk's piece, I now realize that writing does have a genre. Dirk also points out that genres are used to help people accomplish a goal. I never thought a genre could do that. I always thought it was used to just categorize novels or short stories but, now that I have read this piece, I now realize that genres are important because, if you write in the wrong genre, the message that you want to portray can come across completely differently then you had intended. Taylor   I really liked the video that Taylor made because it was a good visual representation for people who don’t like football. Personally, I like football, so I think it is necessary to have more research done for the players wellbeing. Sarah I really liked how Sarah chose such a relevant topic to today’s times. I really liked her journal entries because it showed how much a person is affected by others. No one should be judged based on their gender. Luke B I really like that he used a survey because it gave a semi accurate representation of the people here. I think it’s really funny that he chose the topic of makeup because most of the girls here always are done up. Kathryn The Spotify playlist was a very unique idea.
