possible topics

So currently I am thinking about the American education system as a possible topic for my paper. There is definitely a consensus that America is falling behind in worrdeducation standards, so maybe I can analyze some of the reasons why. This could include looking a the education systems of other more successful countries, and theorize(if thats allowed) what the implementation of such policies in America would do. one of the sources I found has a different approach, stresses the importance of day care systems for children, so that could be a different idea if the American education system is too broad of a topic.  Also in order to apply to my major, I want to look into education legislation, however whenever you get into the political real things become more debated and usually there is no right or wrong. I am also planning on including the book " the Smartest Kids in the World and how they got that way," as one of my main sources. Its really interesting and is a great study to base my arguments off of.

"Navigating Genres" by Kerry Dirk makes you really think about what a genre is. Whenever I thought about genres, I always thought of it as the type of writing that is being created. All throughout school, we were taught that a genre was used to describe a novel such as nonfiction, fiction, fantasy, science fiction, etc. I never really thought of a piece of writing having a genre but now, after reading Dirk's piece, I now realize that writing does have a genre. Dirk also points out that genres are used to help people accomplish a goal. I never thought a genre could do that. I always thought it was used to just categorize novels or short stories but, now that I have read this piece, I now realize that genres are important because, if you write in the wrong genre, the message that you want to portray can come across completely differently then you had intended. Taylor   I really liked the video that Taylor made because it was a good visual representation for people who don’t like football. Personally, I like football, so I think it is necessary to have more research done for the players wellbeing. Sarah I really liked how Sarah chose such a relevant topic to today’s times. I really liked her journal entries because it showed how much a person is affected by others. No one should be judged based on their gender. Luke B I really like that he used a survey because it gave a semi accurate representation of the people here. I think it’s really funny that he chose the topic of makeup because most of the girls here always are done up. Kathryn The Spotify playlist was a very unique idea.
