Possible topics

     One possible topic I might go into is social media, more specifically how does certain sites such as Facebook, LinkedIn, or Twitter affect certain areas in our society. I might go into either how it affects education, the economy, or social interaction. If I chose how it affects the economy I would try to specify on one specific social media site and how it affects a certain state's economy or a certain part of the US market. If I was to address how social media affects education, I might chose a specific grade and how this grade is affected by certain social media sites. Lastly, the topic of how social media affects social interaction, I would chose a certain age group and possibly one or two social media sites. For example one possible research question could be, "How does Facebook affect the social interaction between people of 16-21 years of age in the United States?". To backup my research questions I would use statistics and research to support my ideas in my essay.

"Navigating Genres" by Kerry Dirk makes you really think about what a genre is. Whenever I thought about genres, I always thought of it as the type of writing that is being created. All throughout school, we were taught that a genre was used to describe a novel such as nonfiction, fiction, fantasy, science fiction, etc. I never really thought of a piece of writing having a genre but now, after reading Dirk's piece, I now realize that writing does have a genre. Dirk also points out that genres are used to help people accomplish a goal. I never thought a genre could do that. I always thought it was used to just categorize novels or short stories but, now that I have read this piece, I now realize that genres are important because, if you write in the wrong genre, the message that you want to portray can come across completely differently then you had intended. Taylor   I really liked the video that Taylor made because it was a good visual representation for people who don’t like football. Personally, I like football, so I think it is necessary to have more research done for the players wellbeing. Sarah I really liked how Sarah chose such a relevant topic to today’s times. I really liked her journal entries because it showed how much a person is affected by others. No one should be judged based on their gender. Luke B I really like that he used a survey because it gave a semi accurate representation of the people here. I think it’s really funny that he chose the topic of makeup because most of the girls here always are done up. Kathryn The Spotify playlist was a very unique idea.
