Project 2 Research and Stuff

One idea that I have for a topic to research is Rachel Carson banning DDT use. Rachel Carson was a famous author and environmentalist that spread awareness of DDT (pesticide) use in the U.S. and in Africa, as it was believed that it had negative effects on soil, animals, and eventually, humans. The DDT was used to kill crop-pests, as well as malaria carrying mosquitos, which is where the controversy over this issue arises. Studies suggest that malaria cases increased drastically after the ban of DDT. I don't know if I really wanna do boring science stuff though.

"Navigating Genres" by Kerry Dirk makes you really think about what a genre is. Whenever I thought about genres, I always thought of it as the type of writing that is being created. All throughout school, we were taught that a genre was used to describe a novel such as nonfiction, fiction, fantasy, science fiction, etc. I never really thought of a piece of writing having a genre but now, after reading Dirk's piece, I now realize that writing does have a genre. Dirk also points out that genres are used to help people accomplish a goal. I never thought a genre could do that. I always thought it was used to just categorize novels or short stories but, now that I have read this piece, I now realize that genres are important because, if you write in the wrong genre, the message that you want to portray can come across completely differently then you had intended. Taylor   I really liked the video that Taylor made because it was a good visual representation for people who don’t like football. Personally, I like football, so I think it is necessary to have more research done for the players wellbeing. Sarah I really liked how Sarah chose such a relevant topic to today’s times. I really liked her journal entries because it showed how much a person is affected by others. No one should be judged based on their gender. Luke B I really like that he used a survey because it gave a semi accurate representation of the people here. I think it’s really funny that he chose the topic of makeup because most of the girls here always are done up. Kathryn The Spotify playlist was a very unique idea.
