1. Taylor- She could've included audio to the video and/or added narration to it to talk more about its relevance to the topic.

2. Sarah Liem- I liked how she thoroughly explained each genre and related them to her topic.

3. Luke Berard- I liked his focus on the statistics of makeup use and the factors surrounding those.

4. Katie- I liked the Spotify playlist to show the diversity in music.

5. Logan Green- I liked how he addressed cultural appropriation in the music industry.

6. Emily Melcher- I liked the focus on the history of the vegetarianism as opposed to just the practices of it.

7. Amiyah- I liked how well organized her presentation was and how she looked at every aspect of mass shootings in America.

8. John Martinez- I liked the interaction with the audience in his presentation.

9. Sean Keenan- I thought the presentation was good, but he could've explained the focus of his topic a little more.

10. Madison Hill- I liked her use of social media in her project and how she related it to her topic.

11. Emily Stock- I liked how she talked about the laws of certain states and how they pertain to the subject.

I want to start off by saying that “Shitty First Drafts” by Anne Lamott is extremely inspiring to me. The combination of the personal tone that she uses along with the topic that she is writing about really speaks to me. Lamott uses the example of famous writers to prove that ‘shitty drafts’ are normal part of writing. This made me feel better about myself and my writing. I sometimes have a very hard time with writing, and this makes me feel like my troubles are something that almost everyone goes through. I agree with the points that she makes about bad drafts as being a crucial part of the writing process. Even though forcing a draft out of yourself may be hard and it might not turn out good, it gives you a starting point. Lamott writes, “But because by then I had been writing for so long, I would eventually let myself trust the process…” (Lamott paragraph 7). Navigating Genres Reading Response- Taylor Wilhelmy

"Navigating Genres" by Kerry Dirk makes you really think about what a genre is. Whenever I thought about genres, I always thought of it as the type of writing that is being created. All throughout school, we were taught that a genre was used to describe a novel such as nonfiction, fiction, fantasy, science fiction, etc. I never really thought of a piece of writing having a genre but now, after reading Dirk's piece, I now realize that writing does have a genre. Dirk also points out that genres are used to help people accomplish a goal. I never thought a genre could do that. I always thought it was used to just categorize novels or short stories but, now that I have read this piece, I now realize that genres are important because, if you write in the wrong genre, the message that you want to portray can come across completely differently then you had intended. Shitty first Drafts Response

Anne Lamott's "Shitty First Drafts" was a very real take on the writing process. She really opened up and recognized how writing is not an easy, one step process. It in fact takes time and patience and most of the time cannot get it done in one sitting. This is why writing a paper for class cannot be done in one night, it needs to be done at least twice and, in my opinion, be read over by at least two trusted people. This way a second set of eyes will look at it and point out errors or give feed back that one did not find in their own paper. Lamott gave great ideas on how to truly get started with a paper, you write down any and everything that comes to mind and when you reread it, you find that one spark to start the paper. It can get frustrating knowing that you wrote six pages and the very last sentence is the only one you'll use, but it is rewarding when the final draft is completed and to ones own perfection.
