I like how in her presentation she was able to mention the specific audience that each of her genres were meant for.

The purpose of her research was to persuade the audience that vegetarianism is the healthy way to go for both the consumer and the earth.

I liked that the instagram feed that she created was an interactive type of thing. The instagram account she made was really cool and nicely put together.

I like how her subversive genre was a resume given the severity of the topic. It was a very creative idea and got the point of her topic across nicely.
Josh Liles: Coral Reefs and how they’re losing their colors
I like the idea behind his photo campaign and how he was able to show the differences between a life without color and one with.
Lauren Bogen: Strict parents negatively impacting adolescents
The purpose of the memes were to express humor on a sensitive topic. ?

The purpose of the online survey was to distinguish the people that want to cut the corporate taxes and those who dont?

I like how in her poem she used the shape of the poem to show the way that people will lose weight only to gain it back again.

Hannah: Euthanasia
In her youtube video I liked how she used the idea of an advertisement to sell the viewers on euthanasia

Julie Cotton: Entomology
I like how she used the idea of the poster as a horror movie to reflect the idea of our soictey's horror at eating bugs.

Shitty First Drafts Response

I want to start off by saying that “Shitty First Drafts” by Anne Lamott is extremely inspiring to me. The combination of the personal tone that she uses along with the topic that she is writing about really speaks to me. Lamott uses the example of famous writers to prove that ‘shitty drafts’ are normal part of writing. This made me feel better about myself and my writing. I sometimes have a very hard time with writing, and this makes me feel like my troubles are something that almost everyone goes through. I agree with the points that she makes about bad drafts as being a crucial part of the writing process. Even though forcing a draft out of yourself may be hard and it might not turn out good, it gives you a starting point. Lamott writes, “But because by then I had been writing for so long, I would eventually let myself trust the process…” (Lamott paragraph 7). I think I need to learn how to trust the process in my own writing, because I try so hard to be perfect on the f...

Shitty first Drafts Response

Anne Lamott's "Shitty First Drafts" was a very real take on the writing process. She really opened up and recognized how writing is not an easy, one step process. It in fact takes time and patience and most of the time cannot get it done in one sitting. This is why writing a paper for class cannot be done in one night, it needs to be done at least twice and, in my opinion, be read over by at least two trusted people. This way a second set of eyes will look at it and point out errors or give feed back that one did not find in their own paper. Lamott gave great ideas on how to truly get started with a paper, you write down any and everything that comes to mind and when you reread it, you find that one spark to start the paper. It can get frustrating knowing that you wrote six pages and the very last sentence is the only one you'll use, but it is rewarding when the final draft is completed and to ones own perfection.

Navigating Genres Reading Response- Taylor Wilhelmy

"Navigating Genres" by Kerry Dirk makes you really think about what a genre is. Whenever I thought about genres, I always thought of it as the type of writing that is being created. All throughout school, we were taught that a genre was used to describe a novel such as nonfiction, fiction, fantasy, science fiction, etc. I never really thought of a piece of writing having a genre but now, after reading Dirk's piece, I now realize that writing does have a genre. Dirk also points out that genres are used to help people accomplish a goal. I never thought a genre could do that. I always thought it was used to just categorize novels or short stories but, now that I have read this piece, I now realize that genres are important because, if you write in the wrong genre, the message that you want to portray can come across completely differently then you had intended.
