Sarah, Josh, Julie, and Garret’s Adaptation

We like how this group changed their paragraph into a sort of slasher feel. Therefore, the group change the genre into a combination of horror and suspense by building up the story from the mother sniveling into the office without the stockbroker noticing. First off they set the tone to be very serious, but the part where it sells that it is a slasher is the ending where the mother jabs a butcher knife into the neck of the stockbroker.  They successfully adapted the original piece to be very suspenseful and very detailed, while still conveying the presence of a barrier due to the mother's accent.

When writing our own adaptation, we found it interesting to find out how difficult it can be to successfully change the genre without changing the story, especially in the time given.  We wanted to maintain the original goal of the piece while turning it into a piece with comic relief, it was difficult to tell if we were conveying the comedy successfully. The piece seemed as if it was intended for comic relief, however it was difficult for us to formulate how to make the comedic element more obvious within the piece.Overall we had a lot of fun doing this exercise, and putting our own twist on the story.
