Shitty First Drafts Repsonse
I enjoyed how the article gave a different point of view on writing
by the author starting any paper with a first draft. When I first starting
reading the article, I was thinking how I never wrote drafts for any essays or
papers that I had done in high school, but as I read on I realized I might not write
drafts like she does in big paragraph bulks but in preparation for this reading
response, I wrote down little notes and bullet points that I want to cover. I do
this to remember what was said in the article as I read and after reading I use
my topic points to build on for my response. I found it interesting when she
mentioned the stereotype for authors because that is how I pictured them too,
that it came easy to them and they can go on with a story forever, but in retrospect
it is compared to how I find writing as pulling teeth, which is interesting
cause I don’t particularly like writing and I find it like pulling teeth yet people
who write for a living find it the same way.
I enjoyed
how throughout the article the author used personal insight as examples. I feel
like this story is a first draft, how the information was a little scattered and
written in a linear pattern like as she was writing she thought of more and continued.
I especially like the last paragraph because I liked the names she came up with
for the drafts and the advice she gives to you just have to start somewhere
because I connect that to so many things in life but also in writing. In high school,
I would just sit and stare at my blank paper for a while before beginning any essay,
but once I started writing, it was easier to focus my thoughts, so I find her
quote something useful to remember whenever writing.
I also enjoyed the author's personal examples in the article. It made the whole thing more bearable and enjoyable to read.
ReplyDeleteI agree, Lamott used stereotypes to use an honest approach, as well as show how she differs from a stereotypical author
ReplyDeleteHi Katie
ReplyDeleteIt's awesome that you already have a pre-writing process with the bullet point observations and post-it notes. The first draft should come easy to you then. Can't wait to read it!
