Writing Draft 1

I found writing the first draft very difficult. The most difficult part was trying to figure out how I wanted to compare my two adaptations. In total, I took 3 days to write the draft. It was mainly because I was being lazy and getting frustrated easily. I would be able to write a couple sentences or a paragraph and then I would get stuck and take a break. I found my experience very similar to the article “Shitty First Drafts”. The article compares writing the first draft to pulling teeth which is exactly how I was feeling. I wrote my paragraphs in a random order and decided to figure out how to organize them at the end. Slowly the paper started coming together and it became a lot easier. Although I had a hard time writing the first draft, I did enjoy the topic I chose. I was able to lay in bed when I was sick for the weekend and watch the different adaptations of Cinderella films which was pretty fun. Overall, writing the first draft was as bad as I was expecting it to be.

    I also got frustrated writing my first draft and found it best to take a break and come back refreshed and with a new mind set.

    I relate to the "pulling teeth" reference. Writing my first "shitty" draft was truly a painful process, however I think my essay will be constructed better because of this process.

"Navigating Genres" by Kerry Dirk makes you really think about what a genre is. Whenever I thought about genres, I always thought of it as the type of writing that is being created. All throughout school, we were taught that a genre was used to describe a novel such as nonfiction, fiction, fantasy, science fiction, etc. I never really thought of a piece of writing having a genre but now, after reading Dirk's piece, I now realize that writing does have a genre. Dirk also points out that genres are used to help people accomplish a goal. I never thought a genre could do that. I always thought it was used to just categorize novels or short stories but, now that I have read this piece, I now realize that genres are important because, if you write in the wrong genre, the message that you want to portray can come across completely differently then you had intended. Taylor   I really liked the video that Taylor made because it was a good visual representation for people who don’t like football. Personally, I like football, so I think it is necessary to have more research done for the players wellbeing. Sarah I really liked how Sarah chose such a relevant topic to today’s times. I really liked her journal entries because it showed how much a person is affected by others. No one should be judged based on their gender. Luke B I really like that he used a survey because it gave a semi accurate representation of the people here. I think it’s really funny that he chose the topic of makeup because most of the girls here always are done up. Kathryn The Spotify playlist was a very unique idea.
