writing my first draft

Writing my first draft was a … rough process to say the least. In all honesty when beginning my writing I figured that it would most likely be a lengthy and possibly painful process so I was mentally prepared for this.  Unlike in “shitty first drafts” where the author joked about writing random thoughts, I knew that my writing at least needed to have substance to it, so my experience wasn’t like that at all. I feel like while I did have some good points that were supported, I kept running out of valuable things to say, but because I knew I had to write so many words I may have started blabbing a little bit. In my revisions, I want to focus on a couple key topics and try to develop them further. I Think to help with the length issue I could find a few examples and try to incorporate them into my writing. Even know writing this I am realizing that for me there is not much else to say, elaborating on things that I feel so not require elaboration tends to be a challenge for me. Because of this I am expecting the revision/ lengthening process to be rather… interesting.

  1. I feel you. Trying to meet a word count is one of my biggest obstacles because sometimes I feel certain points don't need to be elaborated & if they are, it'll all just be "fluff". Totally agree that this second draft will be very interesting.

  2. I also found it difficult to write random thoughts for the first draft. I am so used to following some sort of organization in my writing that writing randomly was very difficult for me too.

  3. I agree with you that I would run out of things to elaborate on and then I would be stuck trying to make sure I would hit the word limit. Once I was out of ideas, I would move onto the next topic and then I would have to go back and try try to add on to older topics.

  4. I also ran out of things to say and i agree that writing the first draft was rough. I was also prepared for it to be a lengthy process because I knew it would be hard to keep the ideas flowing for this type of writing.
