Annoying Ways- Taylor Wilhelmy
"Annoying Ways People Use Sources" by Kyle D. Stedman was about the usual mistakes people make when trying to use quotations in their essays. These mistakes eventually become annoying because they are always messed up. I have to say that I have made these mistakes many times in my essays. I have seem myself throwing in quotes when they don't belong or just putting quote after quote to where they essay doesn't reflect on my opinion. It is more like a compilation of quotes rather than an argumentative essay. I really like how this essay pointed out these mistakes by using students works. By using students works, I feel as though Stedman made the paper more personal and it made it easy to relate to. I also like how the fixes to these problems were very clear and straightforward. It made them very easy to find and it allowed me to see that these problems have easy solutions. Stedman also used real life examples in order to illustrate his points. By comparing annoyances to people on the road, students are able to understand the comparison and it made it easier to see where he was trying to go with his work as a whole. I especially liked when he talked about Uncle Barry and how he thinks he knows everything because I always feel as though there is one person in each family who thinks they know more than anyone else in the world. This made the example and fix easy to understand because the example was easy to relate to and I think everyone has that one person in their lives that do the same thing.
I can agree that I have also made these mistakes in my writing multiple times, they are very simple errors to make. However they have even simpler fixes, it was good to see how easy it is to fix a mistake made involving inserting a quote.
ReplyDeleteI really relate to the apart about messing up my quotes because honestly, I'm still not sure on how to probably utilize quotes in MLA format but this chapter definitely helped a little.
