Chapter 5 Response
Chapter 5 provided me with a lot of useful information to
aid me in beginning stages of the research process. This reading was just
deeper explanations of topics covered in class on Tuesday. The text suggests to
google my topic but stay focused, this reminded me to use the database portals
through the library website to get accurate, accredited sources. Key terms can
be used to search in these databases. I have never written an argumentative
research paper. My research paper’s in high school were more informative
essays. This research paper is going to be different for me because I get to
choose something that I am interested in to write about as opposed to a
predetermined topic papers that I wrote in high school. It is going to be
important for me to note why I want
to pursue this topic and project in the topic proposal. To stay more engaged in
the writing and research process, I need to articulate the reasons why this
research matters to me.
During a research project, I learned that it
is important to consider my rhetorical situation. Also, something unique in
this text is how it explores how genre matters in research. For example,
different modes and medians of sources and the design. In high school, I only
did one research paper that involved an annotated bibliography. I remember it
being a pain to do and seemed unnecessary. But after reading this chapter I now
realize that working bibliographies and annotated bibliographies are important
for evaluating how dependable each source is and for specific examples and
important evidence. Overall, this reading provided me with valid information
and examples to make me feel more confident in beginning a research project.
I have not had much experience writing research papers either. On the bright side, this chapter gave great examples on the research process, making me become less worried about the whole process.
