Chapter 5 Response

Chapter 5 was overall helpful in its information and tips for writing a research paper. I've always hated writing research papers, but the books approach of having steps before hand to help you in finding your topic and why you should write about it are very helpful. Free writing, listing topics, and going through how exactly these topics would play out could help to show me what topic could be the best and most interesting to write about. I think the process will be much more bearable if I like what I'm researching.

    I agree. When you write about something you are interested in your papers come alive and sound a lot better.

    I agree it is not a fun kind of paper to write but maybe a fun topic will liven it up and I think that this chapter simplifies the process a bit which is nice

    Nice response. I agree with what you are saying about research papers. I would say that "bearable" might be a stretch, but that is just me.

"Navigating Genres" by Kerry Dirk makes you really think about what a genre is. Whenever I thought about genres, I always thought of it as the type of writing that is being created. All throughout school, we were taught that a genre was used to describe a novel such as nonfiction, fiction, fantasy, science fiction, etc. I never really thought of a piece of writing having a genre but now, after reading Dirk's piece, I now realize that writing does have a genre. Dirk also points out that genres are used to help people accomplish a goal. I never thought a genre could do that. I always thought it was used to just categorize novels or short stories but, now that I have read this piece, I now realize that genres are important because, if you write in the wrong genre, the message that you want to portray can come across completely differently then you had intended. Taylor   I really liked the video that Taylor made because it was a good visual representation for people who don’t like football. Personally, I like football, so I think it is necessary to have more research done for the players wellbeing. Sarah I really liked how Sarah chose such a relevant topic to today’s times. I really liked her journal entries because it showed how much a person is affected by others. No one should be judged based on their gender. Luke B I really like that he used a survey because it gave a semi accurate representation of the people here. I think it’s really funny that he chose the topic of makeup because most of the girls here always are done up. Kathryn The Spotify playlist was a very unique idea.
