Chapter 7 Blog Post

Chapter 7, “Integrating & Documenting Sources,” highlights the various ways to embed information within a research essay, including “quoting,” “paraphrasing,” and “summarizing.”  I think this chapter refreshed my knowledge on how to properly insert sources within the upcoming research paper, as well as, any other assignments that I have for other classes.  Even though I already had background on the information covered in the chapter prior to reading it, I believe that certain portions of the chapter were covered in greater detail, which will serve as a great reference for upcoming assignments.  For instance, the end of the chapter provides examples on ways to properly create a bibliography for the sources being included in one’s paper.  Personally, I have always been a bit confused on how to format sources, so having this information within my reach will be beneficial for me because my classes use both MLA and APA formats.  Additionally, the explanations and examples given to differentiate “quoting,” “paraphrasing,” and “summarizing” from each other is also valuable information that will help me when including sources within my research essay as I will be able to easily distinguish which form of integration I am using.  Overall, even though I believe this chapter might have been a bit repetitive as it covered information that was previously learned, I do think the information contained within the chapter serves as a great reference and will be helpful when writing the annotated bibliography, as well as, this research paper.

  1. I also think it is helpful to have examples on how to cite sources in the bibliography at the end of the chapter because it provide useful information for the research paper and other papers that I will have to write.

  2. I agree that it contained useful information on how to cite sources. I also have a base knowledge on quoting, paraphrasing, and summarizing so some of the points were repetitive for me too.
