Chapter 7 response
Between my previous knowledge of citing evidence and the discussion in class, chapter 7 was a good refresher on how to correctly cite quotations, paraphrasing, and summarizing. It is important to know how to use each of these because it helps to make the paper diverse and not just have quotations throughout the whole essay. A quotation is helpful because it can give you directly what the author said and it is easy to build off of. A paraphrase is still a good way to use what the author says without having his or her direct words in an essay. For a paraphrase it is more of your own words and you kind of explain while telling what the author was saying. A summary is not the authors words it's your own words based on what the author is saying in their essay. Along with the citing this chapter has a review of the MLA format and how to use it in your citations. I am very familiar with MLA but even so this was a good review of it before having to do the annotated bibliography.
