Chapter 7
Chapter 7 discusses the proper way to quote, paraphrase, summarize, and cite sources in a paper. Throughout this chapter the author shows many examples of when to use citations and how to correctly cite a source in your bibliography. Typically I use easy bib or some other citation generating website to make my citations, however in this chapter it shows how to cite sources without using these websites in MLA format. I found this very helpful because I was always unsure of the correct way to write a citation. Another thing I learned from this chapter was the use of paraphrasing. Most of the time I will just use direct quotes in my papers. Paraphrasing could be useful when you want to get the author's point across but in your own words. After reading this chapter I feel that I a more confident in making my own citations.
I found this part of the chapter beneficial, as well. I have always had some trouble when properly citing sources within my bibliography so having this information at hand makes me a little more at ease to write my bibliography.
ReplyDeleteI thought the section on paraphrasing was also useful because I normally don't paraphrase in an essay, instead I use direct quotes from the source. I, however, am more comfortable with paraphrasing an author's main points, and maintaining a flow in my paper.
ReplyDeleteI agree, I also find the paraphrasing part very helpful and informative. I'm glad that I had read the chapter.
