I really liked this chapter and found it really useful. It helped me understand how to integrate quotes into my paper correctly. I never knew that you could maintain the author's tone by using quotes that capture the tone. I just used quotes that were informational to my paper. I thought the section on plagiarism was especially helpful because it gave solutions to avoiding plagiarism. For example, you should put the source away when writing your paper and write based on memory and your analysis.  I used take the source and change the words and syntax of certain sentences I wanted to use, but I learned it was plagiarism. I also realized when you paraphrase you still have to cite the source at the end because I did not find the information.This chapter was very helpful in setting me up for writing my paper.

    I also found that putting away your source when summarizing a very useful skill. Using this skill, will help me avoid anything that looks like plagiarism.

"Navigating Genres" by Kerry Dirk makes you really think about what a genre is. Whenever I thought about genres, I always thought of it as the type of writing that is being created. All throughout school, we were taught that a genre was used to describe a novel such as nonfiction, fiction, fantasy, science fiction, etc. I never really thought of a piece of writing having a genre but now, after reading Dirk's piece, I now realize that writing does have a genre. Dirk also points out that genres are used to help people accomplish a goal. I never thought a genre could do that. I always thought it was used to just categorize novels or short stories but, now that I have read this piece, I now realize that genres are important because, if you write in the wrong genre, the message that you want to portray can come across completely differently then you had intended. Taylor   I really liked the video that Taylor made because it was a good visual representation for people who don’t like football. Personally, I like football, so I think it is necessary to have more research done for the players wellbeing. Sarah I really liked how Sarah chose such a relevant topic to today’s times. I really liked her journal entries because it showed how much a person is affected by others. No one should be judged based on their gender. Luke B I really like that he used a survey because it gave a semi accurate representation of the people here. I think it’s really funny that he chose the topic of makeup because most of the girls here always are done up. Kathryn The Spotify playlist was a very unique idea.
