Dinner Table

In my dinner table, I placed articles 1 and 2 away from each other because article 1 discusses the poor judicial and law enforcement practices that present in Thailand that prevents the prevents the occurrence of child trafficking and prosecution g of traffickers. Article 2, however, focus on sex tourism in Thailand and the profits that are generated from sex tourism. I placed article 3 in the middle of article 1 and 2 because article 3 researches the correlation between sex tourism and trafficking, which combines the topics of article 1 and 2. Article 4 was seated away from the others because article 4 does not focus on trafficking, instead it delves into the wealth gap in Thailand and how it is increasing. Lastly, article 5 was seated closer to article 1 because it specifically talks about sex trafficking within Thailand instead of addressing sex tourism.

                          I felt that this chapter could be very beneficial in helping to enhance my writing. Often times in class when I am told to write, I begin without consideration for my audience or genre, instead hoping to impress the reader with vast amounts of extraneous details. I thought it was interesting that depending on the intended audience, sometimes simplicity can be a better method of explanation rather than lengthy detailed sentences. Shitty First Drafts Response

I want to start off by saying that “Shitty First Drafts” by Anne Lamott is extremely inspiring to me. The combination of the personal tone that she uses along with the topic that she is writing about really speaks to me. Lamott uses the example of famous writers to prove that ‘shitty drafts’ are normal part of writing. This made me feel better about myself and my writing. I sometimes have a very hard time with writing, and this makes me feel like my troubles are something that almost everyone goes through. I agree with the points that she makes about bad drafts as being a crucial part of the writing process. Even though forcing a draft out of yourself may be hard and it might not turn out good, it gives you a starting point. Lamott writes, “But because by then I had been writing for so long, I would eventually let myself trust the process…” (Lamott paragraph 7). This post is written in response to Ch.1 of The Bedford Book of Genres Individual involvement Initially, I found this article rather lethargic, however, through deeper immersion, I gained an understanding of the diversity that genres can create towards the intent of the writing piece. I have never closely looked at the possible approaches I can take towards writing about a certain topic. From the article, I feel greater capability to decide which genre convention suits my intentions when writing about a topic. During my years in Highschool, the details of genres were never brought to my attention.
