Journal 2

This essay was a challenge for me. When it was originally assigned, I did not have a very good understanding of what genre is.  As a result, my first draft included many differences but I never related my points back to the genre conventions.  I was completely missing the “so what?”.  I also spent way too much time writing my first draft. After my first conference, I gained clarity on how to apply what I’d written to genres.  This improved my overall essay immensely.  The most important thing I learned from this project is that genres may have changes but this does not mean they are not valid. I learned that some changes are necessary in order for an adaptation to it its new genre. I learned this in class and enhanced my understanding of it in my first conference.  If I had another week to work on my essay, I don’t think I would change anything.  I feel confident in my essay at this point.  I am very glad I scheduled a second conference for additional changes.  My paper changed drastically from draft 1 to draft 2 and then I made mostly minor changes from draft 2 to 3.  I am proud of my final draft.  If I could rewrite the prompt, I would have gotten rid of the rule that there has to be 10 years in between the two adaptations.  There were many other books and movies that I considered but that didn’t fit the year requirements.

  1. Hi Caroline
I'm glad to see that writing several drafts has benefited you and the end result. Feel free to come to office hours whenever you want. Thank you for your prompt suggestion.
