Journal 2: A reflection on paper 1

  1. The thing that improved the most between my first and final draft was how in-depth my analysis was and the expansion of the answering of “so what.” This transformed my paper from a summary to an analysis.
  2. The most important thing I learned from this writing process would be the importance of writing multiple drafts. If I had sat down and tried to write 1500 words in one sitting with no feedback my final draft would have been laughable. I also learned that when writing I need to be redundant, in that I need to make sure I am explicitly stating why the evidence connects back, because while it is often obvious to me it is not obvious to the reader.
  3. If I had another week to work on my essay I would condense the evidence, it got very wordy, and would add more in-depth analysis that includes more research on the specifics of each genre. While I do feel my analysis was in-depth it would have benefitted from researching from some outside resources on why certain characteristics are present in each genre.
  4. If I could rewrite the project prompt in the syllabus I would form it as multiple questions, this often makes it easier to respond to. The prompt was also very wordy, so I would condense it to avoid confusion, in the beginning I got lost in all of the words.

  1. Hi Leah
It brings me great joy that you've realized that if you were to sit and write 1500 words at once the result would not be as good as writing three drafts. Also, great meme. I absolutely love The Office!
